Architect Intermediate

Eagle is currently seeking an Architect Intermediate. This is a twelve (12) month, contract position scheduled to start in August.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Analyzes business requests and contributes to system requirements covering all considerations required to maintain secure, scalable, robust, and optimized enterprise applications;
  • Consults with stakeholders to ensure alignment and maximize business value of IT solutions;
  • Gives input and direction to vendors to ensure optimal designs;
  • Performs coding or code reviews ad-hoc (e.g. for performance optimization mini-projects);
  • Provides analysis and recommendations for new software / infrastructure as required;
  • Produces test planning and directs environment readiness to support test activities;
  • Performs testing on enterprise systems solutions, including technical components and business rules;
  • Supports the project team with challenges and defect resolution during construction and test activities;
  • Creates or provides input and approval of deployment plans, ensuring issue free deployments of new code to production;
  • Accountable to ensure technical documentation is in place and kept up to date as project and support activities occur over time;
  • Monitors and interprets application availability metrics, and proactively take actions to achieve target results, and;
  • Troubleshoots production issues as 3rd-level escalation contact.

Skills and Qualifications

The qualified candidate must have:

  • Bachelor degree in an IT related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication;
  • Confident team player – capable of articulating and willing to share personal insights which contribute to resilient, high-quality solutions;
  • Excellent technical writing and drawing (e.g. Visio);
  • Proven ability to meet aggressive deadlines & work under pressure;
  • Solid troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities, technical savvy;
  • Experience with leading edge concepts and techniques like multi-threading, high availability, virtualization and containerization;
  • Effective knowledge of command-line operating systems and interfaces;
  • Familiar with Web Services concepts: Tomcat, JBOSS, WebLogic, XML, SOAP, etc.;
  • Deep knowledge of DB systems such as Oracle, MSSQL, SQL, data modeling;
  • Performance analysis and tuning experience;
  • Great interpersonal skills and ability to build bridges with technical & non-technical teams;
  • Positive team spirit and a desire for continuous learning (e.g. passion to learn telephony or billing, and support continuous improvement of top-notch enterprise software);
  • Availability to work occasional weekends and evenings to meet hard deadlines and available to work occasional overnights to take part in deployment activities;
  • Ability to travel within Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto corridors with little advance notification; travel is typically infrequent depending on project needs;
  • Technical background in Telecommunications, Systems Administration, Database Administration, Software Development and/or Security, preferably in an enterprise context (as an asset);
  • Relevant industry and/or vendor certifications (as an asset);
  • Development skills in major programming languages (Java, J2EE, PL/SQL, shell,) including web services (as an asset);
  • A good understanding of application/platform security concepts and best practices (as an asset);
  • Performance analysis and tuning experience (as an asset);
  • Ability to design and construct proof of concept solutions using a variety of toolsets, including modern DevOps and containerization technologies (as an asset);
  • Experience with data warehousing, report generation and ETL tools (as an asset);
  • Business background in Telecommunications and/or Billing, preferably in an enterprise context (as an asset), and;
  • French language a plus (as an asset).
