Eagle is currently seeking a Technical Architect for a one (1) year contract opportunity, scheduled to begin in March.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Leading or participating in project teams responsible for the design, construction and implementation of business solutions. Serves as a senior technical person on projects;
  • Researching and recommending application technologies and techniques to improve efficiency;
  • Researching and recommending custom or commercial off the shelf (COTS) solutions to support corporate objectives;
  • Working with business stakeholders in order to establish an understanding of the business and determine the technology and/or data needs of the business;
  • Determining the range of solutions to fit the business needs and describes optimal solutions in terms of cost effectiveness, scalability, security and future positioning which are aligned with the organization’s overall technology strategy and consistent with the organization’s technology environment;
  • Facilitating effective communication between business stakeholder and technology resources;
  • Translating complex business information into simple, clear and accurate language so as to ensure understanding by technology resources;

  • Validating technology solutions prior to implementation to ensure that the solutions are stable, integrate properly with the organization’s existing technology footprint and fulfils their intended function. Describes and coordinates modifications as required;
  • Developing plans which will facilitate business continuity and rapid recovery in the event of technology failure;
  • Documenting the technology solutions according to the organization’s policies and practices, including models and other architecture documents;
  • Participating in development of enterprise architecture and technology road maps;
  • Ensuring that all activities adhere to corporate architectural principles, standards and processes, unless an exemption has been granted;
  • Ensuring that the architecture supports the corporation in achieving its strategic goals;
  • Participating in development and review of Statement of Work documents, Project Charters, Requirements documents, Business Cases, Project Plans and Schedules;
  • Participating in estimation of program and project level budgets;
  • Participating in release and implementation planning;
  • Providing third-level support for production and project issues;
  • Mentoring existing architects as well as performing in job duties within an architect capacity;
  • Developing technical architectures, frameworks and strategies, either for an organization or for a major application area, to meet the business and application requirements;
  • Identifying policies and requirements that drive out a particular solution;
  • Analyzing and evaluating alternative technology solutions to meet business problems;
  • Ensuring the integration of all aspects of technology solutions;
  • Evaluating hardware and software relative to their ability to support specified requirements and, by determining potential and actual bottlenecks, and improve system performance through recommended hardware changes;
  • Reviewing computer software systems and data requirements as well as communication and response needs and determine operating systems and languages needed to support them;
  • Developing, analyzing, designing, and implementing the organization’s storage infrastructure/architecture to ensure high levels of data quality and availability;
  • Developing capacity planning, backup and restore procedures for storage capabilities;
  • Developing or assisting in development of data disaster recovery plans, as they relate to storage capabilities and continuity;
  • Developing, implementing, and overseeing policies and procedures to ensure consistent and seamless storage continuity and capabilities; and,
  • Analyzing and evaluating alternative technology solutions to meet business problems.

Skills and Qualifications

The qualified candidate must have:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science (a combination of experience and education will also be considered);
  • Ten plus (10+) years of Lead Development experience;
  • Experience in an architectural capacity within IT;
  • Experience with technology infrastructure in a diverse technical environment;
  • Strong overall technical skills;
  • Experience designing and developing a software solution's architecture in a complex environment;
  • Experience in the development and deployment of custom applications and services as well as the adoption, deployment and integration of COTS and SaaS applications;
  • Experience in documenting an application's architecture including modeling applications using standard modeling tools;
  • Experience with variety of system development life cycles, such as sequential, iterative and agile;
  • Experience with software development frameworks and design patterns;
  • Experience defining software development standards, guidelines, methods, tools, and techniques;
  • Experience supporting live applications and ensuring that modifications to applications conform to the established architecture;
  • Experience with a wide range of server, storage, network and other infrastructure technologies is an asset;
  • Experience with operating systems and platform services such as web servers, application servers, databases and messaging is an asset;
  • Experience in working with operations and technical specialists in infrastructure implementations is an asset;
  • Experience with IT frameworks such as ITIL, COBIT and TOGAF is an asset;
  • Experience in sizing infrastructure to meet performance and capacity requirements is an asset;
  • Experience in documenting infrastructure architectures is an asset;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • Demonstrated leadership or mentoring abilities; and,
  • Strong analytical and reasoning abilities.
