System Administrator

Eagle is currently seeking a System Administrator for a six (6) month contract opportunity, scheduled to begin in November.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the security, deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and administration of all platform technologies including server operating systems, software, and peripherals;
  • Performing research on potential technology solutions in support of procurement efforts;
  • Keeping current with the latest technologies;
  • Evaluating and directing implementation of server build solutions to suit corporate needs;
  • Adhering to Disaster Recovery requirements;
  • Performing Research and identification of new standards and policies;
  • Ensuring that the Platform service standards, procedures, and policies are strictly adhered to including but not limited to software packaging and installation, new server builds, infrastructure design, and security controls;
  • Troubleshooting all aspects of Platform Services operations;
  • Implementing and maintaining a patch management strategy on all solutions;
  • Providing monitoring (with strong focus on security monitoring) of platform systems and applications including but not limited to Active Directory and Email;
  • Performing continuous improvements to services through monitoring, reporting, analyzing, and enhancing;
  • Using best practices for security and administration within Active Directory;
  • Using automation whenever possible to reduce errors and duplicate procedures;
  • Enhancing logon scripts and group policy to increase productivity and efficiency;
  • Administering domain services such as DNS, WINS, and DHCP;
  • Ensuring high availability of domain infrastructure;
  • Maintaining internal Applications including but not limited to Forefront for Exchange, Forefront Client Security, Exchange, Lync, and Blackberry;
  • Implementing best practice designs for privileged account security, ensuring highly secure application installations;
  • Managing application and platform storage capacity using best practices to maintain free space and ensure expected performance;
  • Tracking and forecasting storage usage corporate wide;
  • Ensuring that capacity planning is conducted within adequate time to implement enhancements for all Server and Storage Infrastructure elements;
  • Ensuring healthy operation and high availability of email services;
  • Maintaining application and upgrades of the email system in accordance with Microsoft recommendations;
  • Maintaining and administering communication services including but not limited to Lync, Blackberry Enterprise Server, and Webmail;
  • Identifying and using the appropriate tools to obtain user statistical and server operational data and trends to forecast infrastructure growth;
  • A solid understanding of VMware virtualization technology;
  • Ensuring security, availability, and continuity of platform systems through fault tolerance, and High Availability;
  • Ensuring that capacity planning is conducted with adequate time to implement enhancements for all platform elements;
  • Building and maintaining server templates for efficient standardized deployments;
  • Designing and building security into all solutions;
  • Maintaining security and integrity of all systems;
  • Researching, maintaining, and coordinating system upgrades and service packs;
  • Maintaining up to date knowledge of industry changes and direction through research, literature, seminars and knowledge sharing;
  • Ensuring compliance with corporate architecture and security standards;
  • Developing and maintaining process automation using the tools available;
  • Deploying automation and group policy to ensure security and automated maintenance processes;
  • Monitoring systems for adherence to corporate security policies;
  • Tracking usage and renewal of various certificates installed throughout the organization;
  • Ensuring that security is part of the design, build, and maintenance of all solutions;
  • Suggesting new and supporting all initiatives to increase security of confidential member data or proprietary information;
  • Attending and contributing to team meetings;
  • Providing value added user training where appropriate;
  • Creating and maintaining detailed Platform systems documentation and procedures;
  • Escalating issues to manager where required using established guidelines;
  • Performing research, configuration, and deployment of line of business software;
  • Working with stakeholders to define business and systems requirements for new technology implementations;
  • Managing assignments and customer expectations to meet due dates;
  • Working with clients to manage expectations, keep them informed and strive for customer satisfaction;
  • Providing project leadership;
  • Providing technical leadership and coaching when required;
  • Maintaining current knowledge of the client’s infrastructure and evolving changes within the environment by sharing information to keep current on new products, services, or other configuration changes within the environment;
  • Serving as an escalation point for junior staff and other teams;
  • Maintaining awareness of current products, services, protocols, and standards in support of all platform procurement and development efforts; and,
  • Ensuring IS Infrastructure adheres to defined service level objectives with business units.
