Eagle is currently seeking a Strategic Business Analyst for a seven (7) month contract opportunity, scheduled to begin immediately.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Project delivery that results in the timely, robust initiation and delivery of business-driven IT projects;
  • Initiating and obtaining approval for business-driven IT projects;
  • Gathering and managing business requirements;
  • Eliciting, clarifying, prioritizing, and managing requirements applying best practices and methodologies;
  • Critically analyzing information gathered, reconciling conflicts, negotiating priorities, decomposing high-level information into details, categorizing information to improve understanding, distinguishing user requests from the underlying true needs, analyzing tradeoffs between usability and performance needs and challenge assumptions when necessary;
  • Leading project test activities;
  • Developing and implementing the testing strategy which may include system, interface, and UAT testing;
  • Leading the creation of test cases;
  • Leading and managing test execution with required stakeholders, facilitating defect resolution, and reporting on test status;
  • Stewarding delivery of business-driven work, including effective prioritization and business satisfaction with delivered solutions;
  • Defining, scoping, and managing projects;
  • Developing plans, executing projects, communicating progress, and managing issues in a timely manner to ensure project success;
  • Adhering to Enterprise Project Management Office established guidelines, processes, and standards;
  • Balancing independent work with collaboration to achieve objectives;
  • Managing vendors to ensure deliverables are completed within budget and agreed upon timelines;
  • Supporting solution implementations, including testing, and training;
  • Providing application support for business systems;
  • Engaging software vendors appropriately to ensure timely issue resolution;
  • Managing all software contract administration related to the business areas that are being supported including software license and maintenance / support renewals and associated budget updates;
  • Completing business solution “roadmaps” that describe medium and long-term plans for systems in each business area;
  • Defining the “as is” and “to be” states for business solutions/applications;
  • Completing “roadmaps” that describe medium (12 months) and long-term plans (3 to 5 years) for systems in each business area. Include the financial and resourcing implications and business justification for the proposed technology initiatives;
  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships between IT and business functions, enabling IT solution delivery, as well as business awareness and commitment to IT goals;
  • Being the key point of contact between the business partners and the IT team ensuring business opportunities are identified, requirements are understood, expectations are managed and solutions are designed and delivered to realize benefits;
  • Managing relationship with business departments to ensure IT goals align to business objectives and the relationship is collaborative and effective;
  • Conducting regular discussions with Business Leadership and IT Leadership regarding new opportunities, business challenges, and technology solutions;
  • Capturing and assessing opportunities by conducting feasibility analysis, consulting Subject Matter Expert’s (business and IT), determining business/technology value and cost-benefit, developing business process models, documenting findings/recommendations. This includes the building/overseeing of solid business cases for proposed solutions;
  • Establishing and developing effective business relationships between Business and IT staff that are cordial, professional and productive;
  • Participating in the business function’s management activities and planning sessions;
  • Ensuring business partners are aware of and buy into corporate IT initiatives that require their participation;
  • Identifying areas in which improved organizational communication is needed and partner with other SBAs to implement those changes;
  • Managing the business component of technology planning efforts for assigned area;
  • Participating in all relevant planning activities;
  • Developing an Information Technology plan for assigned area;
  • Analyzing technology trends with respect to the business unit/domains value and helping to drive improvement; and,
  • Demonstrating a positive, proactive attitude, with the ability to manage business change and the challenge of engaging business units and IT personnel collaboratively.

Skills and Qualifications

The qualified candidate must have:

  • A University Degree or equivalent (Business Administration, Engineering or Computer Science);
  • Business Analyst Certification an asset;
  • Twelve (12) to fifteen (15) years’ related experience, including systems/application development and support, business systems analysis, and systems project leadership/management;
  • Experience or knowledge of oil sands operations (including production/regulatory/corporate reporting) an asset;
  • Working experience with SAP, SharePoint, corporate applications and dashboards an asset;
  • Working experience with Information Management an asset;
  • Experience in a line management and/or customer relationship management role in an IT organization;
  • Experience with systems/application/business process modeling and solution architecture;
  • Experience planning, managing, and monitoring IT and/or business projects;
  • Experience in the effective management of budget and prioritization planning and expectations with business partners;
  • Knowledge of general IT processes/practices including SDLC, PMO, and ITIL;
  • Demonstrated continuous efforts to improve project performances, streamline business processes, and work co-operatively to provide quality seamless client service;
  • Proficiency in Business Analysis tools and techniques;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work well with diverse personalities and work force;
  • The ability to forge, grow, and maintain positive relationships with multiple groups;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills;
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities while capable of handling pressure and challenges in a dynamic business environment;
  • The ability to work within tight deadlines and prioritization of work to achieve them; and,
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, critical thinking, troubleshooting, problem-solving skills, and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
