Eagle is currently seeking a Scrum Master for a six (6) month contract opportunity, scheduled to begin immediately.

Key Responsibilities of a Scrum Master

  • Promotes DevOps, Agile/SCRUM and continuous delivery practices;
  • Facilitates negotiation and focuses team delivery on minimum viable solution every sprint;
  • Facilitates the various meetings/SCRUM ceremonies (daily stand-up meetings, Sprint planning meetings, demos, modeling sessions, and retrospectives);
  • Recognizes impediments and works to resolve them as quickly as possible;
  • Facilitate definition of done negotiations enabling higher product quality and continuous integration/continuous development (CI/CD). Remind team of what they defined;
  • Ensures delivery follows Centre of Expertise (COE) best practices, including secure software development practices;
  • Ensure that the necessary business, technical and subject matter skills are included within the team and utilized appropriately;
  • Supports and encourages team members to make decisions, get the help they need, and take ownership of their commitments;
  • Protects the team from interruptions and external interferences;
  • Ensures effectiveness and drives continuous improvement by the team;
  • Transfer knowledge and help teams become more effective in their roles increasing the outcome, collaboration and quality practices;
  • Build a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear retribution, or judgment, with an emphasis on problem solving. Facilitate consensus building activities and conflict resolution in order to improve team effectiveness;
  • Collaborate and partner within and beyond one's team; builds productive relationships to attain collaborative solutions;
  • Coordinates plans and potentially resources with other Value Stream Leads, assists in managing dependences between streams;
  • Define performance goals and perform assignment reviews for team members;
  • Strength in conflict resolution, focuses on values of openness, honesty and respect;
  • As part of the Stream Lead Centre of Expertise (COE), lead and coach teams and stakeholders in an organization where Agile/Scrum/DevOps is evolving;
  • Embrace change, influence and coach the team to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team and organization;
  • Support techniques for effective backlog management. Work closely with the product owner to ensure a healthy backlog is created and maintained/refined with a mindset of agile development;
  • Provides cross training to other value stream team members in the facilitation and leadership of activities to expand team members' knowledge in those areas;
  • Actively expands their technical and process knowledge and skills based on any new demands encountered by team as appropriate to their role as leader and needs of the team;
  • Planner - Plans, Tracks and Monitors Key Metrics;
  • Tracks items using a tracking tool and encourages team members to self-report in tracking tool (i.e. VSTFS Kanban View)
  • Monitors Sprint plan progress and ensures it remains up to date;
  • Ensures defects tracking status is up to date;
  • Tracks trends on velocity, defect and relevant stream quality metrics;
  • Communicate and report team status ensuring transparency;
  • Promotes controlled innovation every Sprint based on tracked statistics;
  • DevOps COE Support;
  • Actively contributes to best practices and lessons learned libraries;
  • Contributes to knowledge bases of own COE, collaborate with other COE members to facilitate increasing maturity and effectiveness in the application of Agile/Scrum/DevOps principles across the organization;
  • Assists other COEs to assess team member skills;
  • Interim Responsibilities (until transition to IS new Organization structure is complete);
  • Lead and develop the Core Banking team through communication, performance management, development plans (job coaching, structured development and skills training) and reward / recognition practices;
  • Develop, maintain and review performance management plans for Core Banking Development Team (quarterly);
  • Complete performance reviews (annually) for Core Banking Development Team;
  • Recruiting of Core Banking Development Team members as required;
  • Evolve methodologies and processes for all phases of design, development and support of the Core Banking system;
  • Coordinate design and development of products, applications and systems to meet functional requirements, technical specifications, and quality standards and ensure integration with other corporate systems. Utilize existing process while seeking opportunity to transition towards new methods;
  • Schedule and prioritize development team project and operational duties, escalating as appropriate to Project & IS management.

Skills and Qualifications of a Scrum Master

  • At least five (5) years of information technology experience;
  • At least five (3) year experience utilizing Agile, Scrum or DevOps in a leadership role;
  • University, college or technical degree in Information Technology or business. Alternatively, extensive proven track record in the primary position disciplines within Financial Sector environment and/or Information Technology / Systems;
  • Advanced knowledge and the application of agile practices and principles, incremental delivery and experience with metrics to effectively measure execution, performance, benefits and value;
  • Working knowledge of iterative development, DevOps, Agile and continuous delivery practices;
  • Working knowledge of agile project management tools such as LeanKit, Jira or equivalent

Not required, but considered an asset:

  • Experience with large scale software delivery and/or Agile transformation at scale in large enterprise organizations;
  • On the job experience as a developer or tester as part of a team an asset;
  • Experience in the Financial/Credit Union Industry or other Financial Institution an asset;
  • Experience working with ITIL;
  • Certified Scrum Master / Professional Scrum Master / Agile Practitioner designation is considered an asset but is not required.
