Eagle is currently seeking a Developer. This is a nine (9) month, contract position scheduled to start in February.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Developing, coding, testing and debugging new software or making significant improvements to existing software;
  • Supporting the software design phases through experience and expertise;
  • Overall designing, developing and team coordinating on the business system and application;
  • Communicating standards and defending technology and scoping decisions to information technology management and development teams;
  • Assisting in resolving problems with software functionality and suggesting improvements;
  • Using significant independent judgment with little to no direction given by supervisor;
  • Acting as a team leader on projects;
  • Ensuring architect, design and implement solutions that meet the stakeholder’s needs;
  • Participating actively in requirements gathering, data modeling and design sessions;
  • Preparing high level and detailed technical specifications for the projects in accordance with PLC, security and architecture documentation objectives;
  • Developing detailed plans and accurate estimates for completion of build, system testing and implementation phases of project;
  • Developing, coding, documenting and executing unit tests, systems, integration and acceptance tests and testing tools for functions of high complexity;
  • Writing, testing and maintaining detailed programs according to specifications given by computer software engineers and systems analysts;
  • Providing input and coordinating with database analyst in creating new and modifying existing database structures using different types of databases;
  • Conceiving, designing and testing logical structures for solving technical problems;
  • Participating in walkthrough reviews of all technical specifications, programs and unit test plans;
  • Performing performance tuning to improve performance over multiple functions;
  • Providing consulting services on new and existing initiatives;
  • Developing the Trade Management system including build, deploy and upgrade; and,
  • Maintaining a strong partnership with QA.

Skills and Qualifications

The qualified candidate must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology or computer science;
  • Seven (7) plus years application development experience;
  • Seven (7) plus years’ experience in application development in the financial services industry;
  • Seven (7) plus years of full development life cycle experience, from architecture through test and deployment and cross platform skills;
  • Ability to learn new programming languages quickly and efficiently;
  • Ability to communicate ideas and take on the ideas of others;
  • Ability to seek improvements to all aspects of development process;
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and manage requests for change;
  • Comfortability in high pressure, deadline-oriented environment;
  • Ability to adapt quickly and function independently when required;
  • Ability to work effectively with people from outside the IT team;
  • Ability to be a creative and innovative thinker;
  • Ability to learn new things and ask good questions;
  • Ability to be a team player and cooperative with good interpersonal skills;
  • Expert knowledge in C and C++ language;
  • Practical knowledge of Sybase and a solid understanding of Unix and some scripting languages on Unix platform;
  • Practical knowledge MQ, Solace, RMDS, Motif and X Windows;
  • Solid communication skills, ability to be a team player and be proactive;
  • Practical knowledge writing using PubSub or solace C/C++ wrapper (an asset);                       
  • Solid experience of Linux (an asset);                       
  • Capital markets industry experience (an asset);                     
  • Knowledge of business line and ability to produce high quality results (an asset); and,      
  • Knowledge in computing in general and ability to apply outside knowledge to work (an asset).
