Eagle is currently seeking a Database Administrator. This is a twelve (12) month, contract position scheduled to start in February.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Monitoring database system details within the database, including stored procedures and execution time, and implementing efficiency improvements;
  • Installing and configuring relevant network components to ensure database access as well as database consistency and integrity;
  • Responding to and resolving database access and performance issues identified via the IT Help Desk;
  • Monitoring, optimizing and allocating physical data storage for database systems;
  • Planning and coordinating data migrations between systems;
  • Creating models for new database development and making changes to existing ones;
  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining change control and testing processes for modifications to all production environments and databases;
  • Creating, maintaining and administering all development, test and staging environments;
  • Creating, or supporting creation of, required reports in response to business user needs;
  • Establishing appropriate end-user database access control levels;
  • Ensuring data quality and integrity in all production databases;
  • Providing application support to mission critical applications;
  • Developing and maintaining policies, procedures and standards for the database environment and other documentation as may be required;
  • Working with application development staff to develop database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures;
  • Conducting research and making recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and security enhancements in support of procurement and development efforts;
  • Assisting with the automation of regular database support activities;
  • Developing, implementing and supporting ETL operations in SQL server;
  • Writing PowerShell and transact-SQL scripts to perform monitoring and maintenance tasks; and,
  • Other duties as may be required.

Skills and Qualifications

The qualified candidate must have:

  • College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science;
  • Certification as Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) or Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP);
  • Four to six (4 – 6) years equivalent work experience;
  • Four to six (4 – 6) years’ experience in a similar role in a medium to large organization
  • Eighteen (18) months’ experience with Windows Server; Active Directory; Sharepoint SQL Server and Microsoft Reporting and Integration Services;
  • Three (3) plus years’ experience with VMWare vSphere, vCenter 5.5+ and Symantec Backup Exec backup/restore;
  • One (1) year experience with Hyper convergence SAN storage and replication, Nutanix, Acropolis and Prism;
  • Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices;
  • Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring and supporting database servers, including SQL Server 2014;
  • Exposure to Web Server, Windows Forms and Web Services application design;
  • Hands-on database tuning and troubleshooting experience;
  • Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives;
  • Enterprise Architect or Visio experience for data and process design modeling;
  • Knowledge of applicable practices and laws relating to data privacy and protection;
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals, procedural documentation, and OEM guides;
  • Positive attitude towards complex challenges and problems as well as routine maintenance and administration tasks;
  • Strong inter-personal skills with a polished and professional manner;
  • Ability to take existing processes, procedures and checklists and improve on them;
  • Comfortability dealing with all levels of management;
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment and work independently or as a member of a team;
  • Ability to be a self-starter who can prioritize project and task-based work in a demanding environment;
  • Organization skills, motivation and ability to be self-directed with good time management skills;
  • Ability to work according to and within parameters defined in corporate policies and standard operating procedures;
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills;
  • Ability to work effectively as both a member of a team and independently;
  • Ability to communicate technical issues to business leaders and groups in a clear and concise manner;
  • Ability to promote a collaborative and consultative process when determining the right solution for the company;
  • Excellent attention to detail; and,
  • Ability to work after hours and on weekends as determined by the project.
