Eagle is currently seeking a Senior Java Developer. This is a six (6) month, contract position scheduled to start in January.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Conducting technical and systems analysis, design, development, unit testing, system integration testing, implementation and support of software applications, using existing and emerging technology platforms;
  • Upholding established architecture assuring that documented standards and procedures are adhered to and ensuring the smooth interpretability of the applications;
  • Collaborating with IT Platform Management, working with the business to obtain the necessary clarity of the requirements at a function point context;
  • Working with project managers, sponsors and other stakeholders to develop and plan technical strategies, agree upon project priorities and deliver applications that support business requirements;
  • Systems integration testing of applications prior to code release to quality assurance; 
  • Working with managers to assure continuing professional development for both technical and soft skills and that of the teams;
  • Training others, participating in company and industry working groups, and encouraging learning, sharing culture that supports development of innovative and effective business solutions;
  • Developing thorough understanding of the businesses they support along with well-developed people and project management skills;
  • Applying these skills either within a narrow business focus or broadly across the firm;
  • Performing moderate to difficult technical tasks independently;
  • Operating with minimal supervision;
  • Working on multiple medium to large sized projects;
  • Providing technical assistance and making technical decisions;
  • Preparing technical and functional documentation;
  • Acting as mentor in own area;
  • Contributing to determining deliverables, staffing, and schedules;
  • Creating detailed technical design, development and implementation of application systems using existing and emerging platforms;
  • Writing new systems of moderate complexity, working with basic application designs and specifications, utilizing standard procedures and techniques;
  • Designing and coding programs of moderate to high complexity;
  • Creating test transactions and runs tests and revising as necessary;
  • Conducting systems analysis of organizational needs and goals for the development and implementation of application systems;
  • Leading and coordinating activities of application development;
  • Providing application and user support, troubleshooting, application testing, system integration testing and post-implementation review of new or changed applications;
  • Completing unit and integration testing for conformance to standards and adherence to design specifications;
  • Leading the development of design requirements, designs, unit and system integration tests, document and implements systems and programs;
  • Developing domain expertise in specific technical skills, tools, and techniques;
  • Extending understanding of business and IT strategies, drivers, and processes at the project to department level;
  • Extending awareness of risks associated with application development and of potential impacts within IT, the business, and or the firm's reputation;
  • Incorporating risk planning and mitigation into work efforts;
  • Helping select team members;
  • Reviewing release notes and other relevant documentation; and,  
  • Participating in code reviews.

Skills and Qualifications

The qualified candidate must have:

  • Undergraduate degree or technical certificate;
  • Four to six (4 – 6) years equivalent experience;   
  • Knowledge of multiple applications;
  • Considerable implementation experience; 
  • Experience with Java, J2EE, EJB, JSP, SOAP and Web Services; and,
  • Experience with HTML, Java Script, PHP, MySql, CSS and WordPress.
