Eagle is currently seeking a Telecom Engineer/Network Designer for a six (6) month contract opportunity, scheduled to begin in May.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Determining the scope of the network design, application implications, number of sites, type of sites, unique requirements, risks to the business;
  • Data Traffic analysis and network security review;
  • Defining technical requirements in general and then on a site by site basis;
  • Identifying design guidelines to be used, architecture, industry standards, and best practices;
  • Developing general solution designs (patterns/standards) or specific to site;
  • Developing general solution implementation guidelines;
  • Identifying design and project risks;
  • Recommendations to reduce design complexity and costs;
  • Developing device scripts or configuration samples;
  • Determining site survey requirements and analysis of site survey results;
  • Site specific designs and implementation recommendations; and,
  • Implementation support with configuration and field personnel 

Skills and Qualifications

The qualified candidate must have:

  • A University Degree in a relevant discipline;
  • Ten (10) years’ experience;
  • Telecom industry knowledge to support IP Networking, LAN;
  • Experience with Copper/Fiber/Ethernet LAN extensions, Wireless Access Points, WAN;
  • Experience with Switching/Routing;
  • Experience with DMVPN;
  • Experience with Private line, MPLS, ISP;
  • Experience with Wireless Technologies;
  • Experience with VSAT, Cellular, Wireless;
  • Experience with Wireless Path Studies;
  • Experience with IS/Data network security;
  • Legacy Infrastructure support experience;
  • Serial Data Connections knowledge;
  • Experience with X.25 Data Network support;
  • Experience preparing legacy infrastructure for transition to IP network capability;
  • Experience with telephony;
  • Experience with Cisco VoIP and QoS;
  • Understanding of SCADA applications in the Oil and Gas industry, pipeline expertise preferred;
  • In depth working knowledge of serial data interfaces, transmission, device polling support etc.; and,
  • Telecom lifecycle implementation experience preferred.

The following skills are considered nice to have:

  • Drafting experience;
  • Cisco Certifications, CCNP for higher level core designs or verification of existing designs from Architecture, CCNA (or equivalent industry experience) for basic IP design implementation or repetitive designs;
  • PEng, to stamp Telecom and Telecom related drawings; and,
  • Mechanical engineering – to design custom mechanical items which may be required to ensure repetitive designs.
